A series of paintings of Jazz icons inspired by the French artist and printmaker, Toulouse-Lautrec.
Famous for his depictions of the Paris night life during the 1890s, Lautrec’s unique style, use of bright colour, flat space and bold lines are a perfect combination for capturing the spirit and vibrance of Jazz. Whether it be the coolness of Jazz musicians such as John Coltrane or Miles Davis, or the intimacy and intensity of the atmosphere in a Jazz club, I think that Lautrec would have relished the opportunity to capture the vibe of Jazz. |
